The initial plan
The first stage of the project will be to remove the cab and break it down to individual panels. These all need rubbing back, inspection, repair / replace where required. I have chosen to paint the Landy in Olive Drab. Its a nice plain colour, and a bit more interesting in the original dull grey. Luckily I have some sources of parts from the UK and will probably bring in some new panels suck as door panels etc. The shell will be stored in a broken down states in the short term whilst the chassis is repaired of any rust and repainted and the engine is rebuilt. The front and rear axles will be removed, new bearings fitted to the diff / wheel bearings and the axles replaced with something a little more robust to give me the option to run larger non standard tyres in the future. At this stage I am hoping to get a set or Interco Super Swamper LTB’s (34×10.5×16) for the Landy for winter use or a set of smaller Simex Centipedes.
Once the Chassis and engine are back in place, the body will be painted in panels off the car and the bodywork rebuilt.
The final stages include the electrics and a new customer tray. At this stage I am looking at a steel frame, wooden deck with some custom work to make the vehicle more suitable to touring. This includes mounting a stainless 120 litre water tank, 9 litre air tank, compressor, dual battery and second spare all under the tray. Above the tray I will be constructing a pipe frame with canvas canopy and a secure steel mesh cage to secure camping equipment when touring. This can house stoves, swags, and space cases for clothes and food. I will plumb in a Shower unit under the bonnet plumbed in to the water tank and also allow the water pump to be used to fill the water tank via some extra taps / fittings. The vehicle will also have some permanent mounted steel jerry cans to increase range as well as the odd 20litre water jerry for quick access to water and provide the abilty to carry suspect water (collect on route for use with the shower / cleaning / cooking) as well as known fresh drinking water. Thats the plan at this stage, and we aim to have the Landy on the road within 12 months.
