2007-06-16 Clean up of the Rear Chassis and general inspection

Filed under: Other — Steven Rowlandson @ 4:06 pm

Work commenced on the rear half of the Chassis. Lots of dirt and rust have been removed thanks to the help of the hitachi Angle grinder and wire brush attachment. some concern has been found with some rust in the top of one of the chassis rails. One of the side mountings off the chassis is also rusted but can be easily repaired by welding in a plate to repair it. The rusted our Chassis Rail can also be repaired with a new piece being welded in. Time to call in the assistance of a collegue to ensure this is fixed properly and safely.

I have also started removing all the fiddly pieces from the rear of the chassis, such as the lights, light guards etc. A simple task made VERY difficult as nearly every nut and bolt has siezed from years of rust. I have doused just about every nut and bolt i can find in penatrene to try help free them up but I can see a lot will need to be cut off.
